Ear Candling
Ear Candling as an alternative healing therapy is not new by any means. There's even evidence showing people used and were familiar with the practice of ear candling as far back as 2500 B.C.! The Egyptians made reference to its use as have parchment scrolls discovered in the Orient.
Candling uses the simple laws of science. The flame of the candle creates a draw or vacuum which pulls out the wax, fungus, candida, yeast and other particles of debris from the ear. This debris collects inside the hollow candle at the bottom. The vacuum is caused by the warm air from the flame and the colder air through the hollow candle chamber. Movement and compression between the ear canal and the candle chamber generates airflow with increasing velocity which produces the vacuum effect.
Why candle? The purpose of candling is to remove wax buildup, especially the heavy impacted wax that normal cleaning cannot remove. Candling is a more comfortable and less expensive alternative to the traditional cleaning method of forcing water into the ear canal.
Candling is also believed to remove candida, yeasts, fungus, and remnants of past infections. The Ear, Nose and Throat Journal of U of U Medical lab reported that the types of bacteria we currently fight in our ears include Streptococcus pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, Anaerobic bacteria, and Influenza A and B.
Though ear candling may not be the answer to all ear, sinus, or throat problems, people have used it to relieve symptoms of itching, congestion, and discomfort associated with eye, ear, nose, and throat ailments. With the long tradition of use around the world, ear candling should continue it's popularity to help people in a natural and effective way. Disclaimer: Ear candling should not be used as a substitute for medical diagnosis and treatment.
What is a session like?
Lying on your side, or in an upright position, a lit ear candle is placed into the ear, creating a gentle soft flow of warmth and smoke that flows into the ear drying the ear out while softening old ear wax and soothing the ear. The process is overall very soothing, relaxing, and non-invasive at no point does the lit ear candle or the ear ever touch. The process can take anywhere from 8-30 minutes per ear, based on the size and thickness or the candle
